Google acquiring Motorola Mobility is not all about smartphones

In a Twitter post by gdarklighter, it is stated that the Google / Motorola deal does not only affect smartphones. This is absolutely true.

In our earlier post, we mentioned that Motorola Mobility makes hardware for mobile phones AND TV set-top boxes. This can mean that Google is in a good position to push their Google TV product. This may or may not work out for Google. The Smart TV market has not been the best for any manufacturer. In July 2011, the Logitech Revue reduced its prices to $99 to sell unused inventory. Consumer interest in Smart TV products may not be ready to welcome a push for Google TV on Motorola TV set-top boxes.  It could be that the allure of Smart TV products attracts more technophile users rather than the average user.

It also could spark life into the mediocre pace of the Google TV market.

We’ll have to wait and see.
