Seesmic CRM for Salesforce Beta

On Tuesday, August 30th Seesmic announced the release of Seesmic CRM for Salesforce Beta for the Android market. This is a well-timed release since this announcement coincides on the same day of the first day of Dreamforce 2011. For those of you that do not know, Dreamforce is the annual user and developer conference for Salesforce.com that is held in the Moscone center in San Francisco. Seesmic demo’d the app during Dreamforce in the expo center held in Moscone North.

The Seesmic CRM for Salesforce Beta app boasts more functionality on their app versus the current Salesforce CRM mobile app. Right now, the current list of features for the Seesmic app includes:

  • Full integration of Salesforce.com standard objects and activities. This would include your Leads, Contacts, Opportunities, and Accounts, as well as the ability to create tasks, events, send an email and log a call.
  • Full implementation of custom fields and access rights.
  • Quick create / edit of objects and activities.
  • Quick access to Activities and Chatter feeds that are related to standard objects.
  • Personalization of object display and field management.
  • All this is protected with a 3 level security approach.

This is just the current list for beta. Future releases include full implementation of custom objects, social context, geolocation, and many more. It also must be said that the app works for Salesforce’s Enterprise Edition and above. As it states on their website: “This application works for Enterprise Edition and above. Please contact your Salesforce rep. to enable it for your Org, if you’re using any other edition”.

It is uncertain how effective this app will be after the upcoming releases that Salesforce has scheduled. During the Dreamforce 2011 keynote,  Salesforce CEO Mark Benioff announced the soon to be released “touch.salesforce.com” which is the mobile HTML5 interface for Salesforce.com that will include full integration with all objects, both standard and custom. This would be the fully functioning version of the Salesforce.com interface. While Seesmic currently has advantages due to its social integration, they may have some trouble after Salesforce releases some of its upcoming social networking integrations. With Salesforce’s new focus of being the social enterprise leader, as stated in the opening keynote of Dreamforce, Seesmic may have challenges in using the Seesmic CRM for Salesforce Beta app as a selling point.
