Pilot was ready to give her life on Sept 11

While we remember all those who have lost their lives on 9/11, we also commemorate the heroes that emerged on that day. We hear of all the heroic acts of firefighters, police, and even everyday civilians made to save the lives of fellow Americans. On that day, our character as a nation was tested and we have surpassed all expectations. Here is a story that goes up there as a story of self-sacrifice.

Before I give you the link, remember the movie Independence Day? And remember Randy Quaid’s character, Russell? At the end of the movie, he has the last missile that the whole squadron has on this jet fighter. The alien ship is drawing close to firing their weapon and wiping out an entire base, when Russell attempts to fire the last missile. It’s jammed. The missile is stuck on his plane. He knows that if he doesn’t do anything, his family (as well as the whole base) will be wiped out. He takes his plane, says goodbye to everyone, and heads in kamikaze style into the alien ship. He doesn’t know exactly that this will even stop the ship, but he does it anyway and in doing so saves everyone’s lives. The following story about an F-16 pilot on 9/11 has that same premise, but instead of an alien ship, it is Flight 93. As in the movie, it gives you that same feeling of pride that people out there would willingly give up their lives in the defense of another.

Read the story and tell us what you think! (And you should also read our article: “What we should remember on 9/11″)
